Range of Motion is different.
Check out a few of the things that set us apart.

Where’s the WOD?!

Well, we don’t actually have one. You see, every single person at Range of Motion is programmed for individually. That’s right, EVERY one. We all have different strengths and weaknesses, and we find that the best way to combat our weaknesses (whether they’re fitness or health related) is by working on them. At the end of the day there might be a hundred training sessions on the whiteboard, not just one. So, yea, there’s no WOD.

But where are the classes?!

Yea… so… we don’t have classes. We’re a ‘bit’ different like that! Every single person at Range of Motion works one-on-one with a coach. This coach is not just their trainer, they’re also their personal health and fitness manager. When you’re not with a coach you have full access to ROM, and there’ll never be a time when you don’t have several sets of eyes on you! We’re always there and always helping.

Soooooo… Where’s all the space?!

Yea ok, we get it. Size matters. But we disagree. We’ve never wanted to be the biggest, it’s not our style. We’re actually pretty small. If it didn’t sound like somewhere you’d go to buy faded denim, we might even call ourselves ‘boutique’. We don’t want it to get to the point where we don’t all know each other’s names – because that would be miserable. We don’t have much space, but what we do in it is MASSIVE.

Ummm, is that all the equipment you’ve got?!

Yep, that’s it! We don’t need 20 sets of everything because we don’t have classes! We don’t have a lot of stuff, because we don’t need it. We have more than enough for everyone to have everything they need, for what they need it for. You know what, we don’t even have a GHD… and we’ve only got two rowers! Crazy huh!?

Is that 80 year old doing banded deadlifts?!

Yep, she is! You see, we don’t like to pigeon hole people. Our clients rise to meet our expectations of them. We expect a lot, and they deliver… plus some! We treat everyone like an athlete. Just because their event is their grandson’s wedding instead of an Olympic final doesn’t change a thing. We challenge people. We don’t take them beyond what we know they’re capable of, but we go pretty damn close!

Okaaaaaayyy, where are the membership options?!

We don’t have any. That’s right, no gold, silver, bronze. No ‘full access’. None of that. What we do have though, is an option for you. We have John’s membership plan. We have Dawn’s membership plan. Hell, we can organise something for your dog! We sit down and work out what YOU need. Then we figure out how to make that work. Then we make it happen.

Let me get this straight. No Rx?! No Scaling?!

Sort of! At Range of Motion we program for everyone individually. So really, everyone is ‘doing it Rx’. You see, ‘Rx’ is shorthand for ‘prescribed’, and our clients are all doing what they’re prescribed. This means different movements, different weights, different training biases, different EVERYTHING! Jimmy’s session is completely different to Kaz’s. It doesn’t mean he’s scaling, it means he’s doing what HE needs. So yea, I guess we’re all ‘doing it Rx’ at ROM!

Your clients want other people to be better than them?!

Yep, everyone at Range of Motion considers it their job. If you’re only concerned with your own achievements, where’s the support? It’s your responsibility to try and make everyone at Range of Motion happier/healthier/fitter/more highly performing than you, and it’s everyone else’s job to make you happier/healthier/fitter/more highly performing than them. In this way, 100 people have got your back, not just one! We improve collectively.

So you mean I’ve got my very own manager?!

Yep. You see, every single person at Range of Motion has their own coach. They see this coach at least once a week, one-on-one. But it doesn’t end there. Our coaches don’t just train you – they MANAGE the whole damn process. They’re everything you need them to be to make you happier, healthier, fitter and more highly performing – not just during your session, but ALL THE TIME!

You’re saying everything is specific to me?!

Yep. Everything! You know the one thing we’ve all got in common? We’re all different. And what we do for you reflects that. The service Range of Motion provides to our clients is as varied as our clients are.

So you don’t have members, only clients?!

Yep, and we think there’s a big difference. We think the big difference is in the relationship. The relationship we have with our clients is much closer than what we’d call a ‘member’. A member is just part of something. Our clients are loyal and come to us for advice and solutions – tailored to their own very unique needs.

Wah? You teach people? What is this, school?!

I guess you could say that! You see, we’re in the business of behaviour change. We help people change their behaviours to create a more happy, healthy and positive outcome. And one of the big things that creates behaviour change is knowledge. We want our clients to not just know WHAT they should be doing, but to UNDERSTAND WHY they should be doing it.

Exercise Physiolo….what? Why all the science?!

Yea, we’re pretty sciencey! In fact (literally!), everything we do has got its foundations in science. Evidence based, research supported, replicable, repeatable, science. The cool thing with science is that it allows us to predict the results of our actions. In this way, if we know what we want (happiness, health, fitness, performance or whatever), we can work backwards to work out what we need to do to get there. Range of Motion is one big science lab!

How come you ‘train’, not ‘work out’?!

Yea, so we guess this is just semantics, but we like to call it ‘training’. We feel like ‘working out’ implies you’re exercising just for the sake of exercising. But ‘training’ means that we’re exercising FOR SOMETHING. Maybe it’s the Olympics, maybe it’s to live to teach your granddaughter to drive. Our training has a goal. We use it to make ourselves better.
