Syndrome X

December 23, 2010

We know our health is in crisis when words like globesity are being used to describe the extent of world weight problems. When chronic life-threatening conditions are combining their effects, like the recently coined ‘diabesity’. Not just diabetes. Not just obesity. Or when our ailments start sounding more like James Bond villains than enemies to our wellbeing, like ‘Syndrome X.’

This sinister condition is a cluster of heart disease risk factors including abdominal fat, diabetes, high blood pressure, low levels of good cholesterol and high triglyceride levels which can multiply your chances of premature death six fold.

The good news? It comes in three parts. First, you treat and prevent Syndrome X the same way. Second, You don’t have to focus on the individual components of Syndrome X, your treatment will affect each of them favourably. Third, exercise is the key. By increasing exercise levels, you WILL reduce your chance of contributing to the fastest growing chronic disease in Australia.
